What do you think makes a winning nature or bird photograph?

When deciding which of your images to enter  – stand back from your image like an artist, really look and be objective. What makes your image stand out? What story does it tell? What will others find engaging about your image? Reviewing past winning images from the BirdLife Australia Photography Awards will inspire you and may also help you with your own entry selections.

What advice do you have for bird photographers?

Consider your use of crop. I have seen average images really pop when a different crop aspect is applied. Be brave and try something different, a well considered alternative crop may turn your excellent image into a winning one.
